How can I get rid of beauty spots?
Explore more FAQsBeauty spots are clusters of pigmented cells on the skin. Some people like them, some don’t. There are different ways to remove them, such as surgery, laser, cryotherapy, or electrocautery. BBL is a type of laser that can treat beauty spots and other skin conditions. It uses light energy to destroy the pigment cells and stimulate skin regeneration.

Beauty spots, also known as moles or naevi, are clusters of pigmented cells that appear on the skin. They can vary in size, shape, colour, and number. Some people may like their beauty spots and consider them as a unique feature, while others may want to get rid of them for cosmetic or practical reasons.
There are different ways to remove beauty spots, depending on their type, location, and size. Some of the most common methods are:
- Surgical excision: This involves cutting out the beauty spot and stitching the wound closed. This method is usually used for large or irregular beauty spots that may be suspicious for skin cancer.
- Surgical shave: This involves shaving off the beauty spot with a scalpel or a razor blade. This method is usually used for small or flat beauty spots that are not likely to be cancerous.
- Laser or BBL face treatment: This involves using a high-energy beam of light to destroy the pigment cells in the beauty spot. This method is usually used for small or light-coloured beauty spots that are not raised above the skin surface.
- Cryotherapy: This involves freezing the beauty spot with liquid nitrogen to kill the pigment cells. This method is usually used for small or dark-coloured beauty spots that are not deep in the skin.
- Electrocautery: This involves burning the beauty spot with an electric current to destroy the pigment cells. This method is commonly used for red beauty spots that are made up of blood vessels or broken capillaries on the face.
One of the most advanced and effective laser treatments for beauty spots is BBL (broadband light) therapy. BBL is a type of intense pulsed light (IPL) therapy that uses a broad spectrum of wavelengths to target different structures in the skin. BBL can treat not only beauty spots but also other skin conditions such as rosacea, acne, vascular lesions, sun damage, fine lines, wrinkles, scars, large pores, dull skin, pigmented lesions (freckles, age spots), redness, uneven skin tone and texture, loose or sagging skin, melasma and hyperpigmentation.
BBL works by delivering pulses of light energy to the skin that are absorbed by the pigment cells in the beauty spot, freckle or angioma. The heat generated by the light energy destroys the pigment cells and stimulates collagen production, which helps rebuild the skin’s structure and mildly firm the skin over time. BBL can also treat broken capillaries on the face by targeting the blood vessels and causing them to shrink or disappear.
BBL treatments are relatively quick and painless, thanks to a cooling mechanism that prevents the skin from getting too overheated. BBL treatments can be performed anywhere on the body, but they are most often used to treat the face, neck, hands, and chest. Most people need a series of three to four BBL treatment sessions, two to four weeks apart, to achieve optimal results. BBL downtime is minimal, with redness and peeling for about four days.
BBL treatments are generally safe and effective for a variety of cosmetic skin concerns. However, they are not suitable for everyone. BBL treatments work best on light, untanned skin. There is a small risk of burning, scarring or creating hyperpigmentation on olive or brown skin. Therefore, it is important to consult with an experienced skin doctor or registered nurse before undergoing BBL treatments.
