Unfortunately, there’s no known cure for rosacea, but it can be managed successfully with a combination of trigger avoidance, good skin care practices, and medical treatments.

Rosacea is a long-term skin condition that causes redness and pimple-like bumps on the face. While there is no permanent cure for rosacea, the condition can be managed and controlled with proper treatment and lifestyle changes.

Here are some steps you can take to manage rosacea:

  • Follow a gentle skin care routine: Use gentle, non-irritating skin care products and avoid products that contain alcohol, fragrances, witch hazel, essential oils and other potential irritants.
  • Avoid triggers: Identify and avoid triggers that cause flare-ups of rosacea, such as exposure to sun, wind, hot or cold weather, stress, alcohol, spicy foods, and caffeine.
  • Use appropriate medications: Topical creams and oral medications can be prescribed by a dermatologist or experienced GP to reduce redness and inflammation associated with rosacea. Spot Check Clinic is a rosacea treatment clinic in Melbourne that provides assessment and prescription and light-based (e.g. IPL) treatments for rosacea.
  • Protect your skin: Wear sunscreen and protective clothing to protect your skin from the sun and wind.
  • Consider laser or intense pulsed light (IPL) therapy: Certain types of laser therapy can be used to reduce redness and visible blood vessels associated with rosacea.
  • Ask your doctor: It is important to seek professional medical advice for personalised treatment plans for managing rosacea. Rosacea has features in common with several other skin conditions including acne, perioral dermatitis, seborrhoeic dermatitis and lupus. A doctor can help differentiate, for example between the lupus rash vs. rosacea.

Regular visits to a doctor with experience in rosacea management can help monitor the condition and make adjustments to your treatment plan as needed.
