Some people notice that their wound “weeps” after a procedure. This sometimes causes concerns about infection, but there is no need to be concerned.
Exudate, a thin translucent fluid, is a common and normal sign of wound healing. It varies from person to person, but it’s a normal part of wound healing. It does not mean the wound is infected, in fact, exudate helps maintain a moist environment, which is beneficial for wound healing.
Strategies for managing exudate include:
- Apply an absorbent dressing.
- Blot the wound with gauze and cover with silicone gel.
Wound exudate normally settles within a few days to a week.
