SKIN TREATMENTS
Laser and BBL for pigmentation
Laser and BBL can reduce freckles, age spots and uneven sun-related pigmentation. We select the treatment, or combination of treatments, according to your skin and the changes you want to address.
- Freckles, age spots and sun-related pigmentation
- Treatment selected for your skin
- Doctor review for uncertain spots
What can treatment help with?
- Freckles and age spots
- Uneven pigmentation associated with sun damage
- Pigmentation alongside redness or visible vessels
Your skin is assessed before treatment. A spot with an uncertain diagnosis needs doctor review before it is treated as ordinary pigmentation.
Melasma needs a different management approach. Sun protection and topical treatments are important, and laser or light treatment can sometimes worsen it. Your doctor will advise whether a procedure has a place in your plan.
Choosing laser, BBL or both
Laser uses selected wavelengths to target pigment. It can be useful for individual spots or as part of a wider treatment plan.
BBL is a form of intense pulsed light (IPL). It can address pigmentation across an area of skin, including where redness is also present.
These are general differences, not fixed rules. Both have their uses. Our experienced doctors and clinicians recommend an approach based on the type of pigmentation, your skin, previous treatment and the results you achieve. Sometimes that means using both. Suitable topical skin care may also form part of your plan.
Treatment and results
You wear protective eyewear while the clinician treats individual spots or a wider area. You may feel warmth or a snapping sensation. Treatment time varies with the area and approach.
Some spots improve after one treatment; others need a course. We review your response before recommending further sessions. Results vary, and pigmentation can return or new spots develop, particularly with further sun exposure.

Preparation and recovery
Follow our laser and light treatment preparation guide. Tell your clinician about medicines, recent tanning, cold sores and previous treatment reactions. Do not stop prescribed medicines without advice from your prescribing doctor.
Temporary redness, warmth and swelling can occur. Treated pigment may darken before fading or flaking away. Burns, blistering, persistent colour changes and scarring are possible; suitability and recovery depend on your skin and treatment settings.
Protect your skin from the sun and follow the aftercare instructions for the treatment you receive, including our laser pigmentation aftercare guide where relevant. Contact the clinic if you develop blistering or increasing pain or redness.
