Which skin cancer service should I choose?

Unless your risk is very low, or you have recently had a full body skin check, we normally recommend you have a full body skin check by a skin cancer doctor.

Still unsure? Get in touch and we’ll help book the skin cancer check that’s right for you.

If you live in Australia, have white skin and are aged 40 or over, you should probably have a full body skin cancer check every year.

More info

In a single mole check, a doctor closely examines a spot or lump of concern that you've identified. Typically, the doctor will examine it using a dermoscope and possibly high-magnification digital photography to aid in diagnosis. At Spot Check Clinic, we can perform biopsies of suspicious spots or lumps and treat most skin cancers.

More info

If you have a very high risk of melanoma and more than 100 moles, you should consider having mole mapping every year. There is evidence that mole mapping can allow earlier detection of melanoma in high-risk patients and therefore improve the chances of successful treatment.

More info

Mole mapping assists in early melanoma detection. It can help identify changes in your spots, and can work as an extra way of highlighting which of your spots or moles might need closer examination or removal.

More info

You don't need to wait to receive the results of your skin check and mole mapping. Because a doctor is performing your examination, they will inform you immediately if they notice any suspicious spots, lumps or likely skin cancers.

More info

You don’t need a referral for mole mapping or a skin check by a doctor at Spot Check Clinic.

More info

If you've booked a full body skin check in conjunction with your mole mapping appointment, your skin will be examined by an experienced skin cancer doctor and individual moles or lesions will be examined and photographed dermoscopically.

More info

Mole mapping can take 20-50 minutes, depending on whether it’s your first session or a follow-up and how many moles you have.

More info

Mole mapping costs around $150 in addition to the cost of a full body skin check. This is subject to change; the most up-to-date information is available on our pricing page.

More info

An accredited skin cancer doctor is a GP who has completed significant additional studies and passed rigorous assessments in the diagnosis, treatment and management of skin cancer.

The technology behind our skin cancer services

Learn More

We use technology and artificial intelligence to enhance skin cancer detection.

AI image analysis

The DermEngine system can analyse photos of individual moles to assist diagnosis and skin cancer risk, and automatically compare before-and-after mole mapping photos to detect changes.

Spectrosopic analysis

We use spectroscopic analysis to illuminate a skin lesion and analyse the light that scatters from it. This can provide a "second opinion" to help us decide whether skin biopsy is required.

Teledermatology

We allow access to all photos we take and any investigations results via the MoleScope system. You can take photos to add to your record and send to our doctor if you can't visit the clinic.
